Kate Hume

MA, MSN, ARNP

Kate Hume is originally from New York City. Her undergraduate study of Religion, Philosophy, Alternative Healing, and Psychology served her well when, in 1974, she accepted a position as a therapist on a farm community for severely mentally ill adults.

Kate’s experiences in alternative healing informed her decision to pursue psychiatric nursing as a vehicle for holistic healing of mental health disorders. After graduating from Columbia University School of Nursing, Kate moved to Philadelphia, where she established the first nurse-owned transitional living program for the chronic mentally ill.

Kate became actively involved in psychospiritual development in the 1980s and obtained a master’s degree in Applied Psychology. Kate’s spiritual expansion gave her the understanding that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. This core belief has influenced both her spiritual and professional psychiatric practice throughout the years.

In 1997 Kate received a master’s degree in Psychiatric Nursing. She moved to Tennessee and became the first psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurse in Knoxville, TN. Kate has owned a private psychiatric practice since 1997. She has also rendered psychiatric services in hospitals, Intensive Outpatient clinics, Community Mental Health Centers, outpatient offices and skilled nursing facilities. She specializes in treating mood disorders, anxiety, and adult ADHD.
